Table Base - What Are Your Options?
When looking at contract tables, you're typically faced with two choices...full table cells and table bases. Most commercial designers opt for table bases with separate legs as this gives more control over the design and finish so everything fits into their designs. Here we take a deeper look at table bases, the options available, and how to use them to create stunning spaces.
Table bases accommodate table tops of various sizes for 2, 4, 6, or more people depending on your venue needs, and can be mixed to provide different seating options. The following is a detailed introduction to how to choose a table frame for you.
Style
With so many styles of table bases to choose from on the contract market, there are many options for different purposes:
Flip-top Table Base - For easy storage as the top folds down into a vertical position and takes up less space.
Nesting Table Base - When combined with the flap function, multiple tables can be stored in minimal space. Great for events and outdoor spaces.
Round Table Bases - With round bases ranging from simple contemporary styles to classically shaped columns, this style with square bases is our most popular choice.
Square Table Bases - Like round table bases, they are available in a variety of styles and finishes.
Twin Table Base - Available in square, rectangular, and oval shapes - these can add a large countertop to accommodate more guests.
Fixed/Permanent Table Legs - Fixed to the floor to keep the table in place, they are ideal for cyberspaces and bars (inside and outside).
Conical Table Base - A statement piece that adds extra character to the table.
Table Legs - With a choice of 3, 4, or more legs, the table leg base offers something different from the standard center column table base.
Rising - Becoming common in workspace environments, these bases allow people to use the table/desk while sitting and standing and are available in manual, gas-assisted, and electric versions.
Material
The legs are available in a variety of different materials, such as metal or wooden, each with its own finish options, giving you a wide range of options when it comes to design. When paired with your tabletop of choice, you can create something that fits seamlessly into your design. Some available materials and finishes are listed below:
Aluminum Table Base - Can be powder coated, brushed, anodized, or left in a 'raw' finish
Steel Table Base - Steel bases can be brushed, polished, and powder coated for many different looks
Timber/Timber – With Timber/Timber you can achieve a natural look with stained paint, or opt for a painted look to add color to a venue
Cast Iron Table Legs / Cast Iron Table Legs - Classic style, mostly black or color painted / powder coated
Concrete Table Base - A highly strong material, concrete table bases can be painted or left in pristine condition to create a statement.
Indoor and Outdoor
Table legs are designed to be used indoors or outdoors, depending on the materials and finishes used... It is always worth checking which areas the product is suitable for when specifying a specification, to ensure there are no problems when using it.
Materials suitable for outdoor use are aluminum, teak, and treated steel.
Tabletops and Fixtures
All table legs come with some means to securely hold the tabletop. These are usually spider fixation plates, but can sometimes be square or round fixation plates. These have holes for the screws needed to secure the tabletop.
When specifying a table top and base it is important to consider how the base will be secured to the table, if using a stone or marble table top, the MDF base is usually secured to the marble to make securing the base easier, wooden tops often include batons to prevent warping, Therefore the size of the fixing plate/bracket needs to be considered.
In Short
When specifying table bases, it is important to consider the following:
Height - How will the table be used and with what furniture? Meal or coffee?
Table Top - Is it top compatible; is it within the maximum size and weight limits?
Venue - Is it for indoor or outdoor use? Is it suitable for the proposed environment?
Storage - Does the table need to be stored when the service is over?
