Our dining chair buying guide is your one-stop shop for choosing the right dining chair for your home. We've got a lot of great tips we want to share with you, so let's get right to it!
How to Measure a Dining Chair?
When measuring dining chairs, you need to consider a few key things. This includes the size of your space, the size of your dining table, and the comfort level for you and your guests. A chair that fits one table may not fit another. That's why it's important to find a chair that's right for you and your space. In other words, here you need to know the size of the dining chair:
High. This is from the very top of the chair all the way to the floor. This measurement varies from chair to chair, so it's important to check. Taller chairs will give the ensemble a more formal, closed look, while chairs with lower backs will open up your dining space.
Seat width. This is the size of the seat from side to side. This will tell you the width of the chairs and indicate how many chairs you can fit around the table.
Chair height. This is the height of the chair from the floor to the bottom of the seat. This is a very important metric when looking at how well your chairs will fit under the dining table you choose.
Depth. Seat depth is measured from the front of the seat to the back, so you can sit as far back as you can.
Back height. It's not the height of the entire seat, but the height of the backrest. Depending on the height of the chair's back, the style and support of the chair can vary greatly.
Did You Know?
To help determine sitting depth, an anthropometric measurement (anthropometric measurement) called "hip-popliteal length" is used. This is basically the horizontal length from the back of the hip to the back of the calf. Therefore, chairs mass-produced in schools and public places usually have a depth of 38 to 43 cm. However, many dining chairs will be deeper than this for more support and comfort.
The optimal seat height of the dining chair is the distance between the top of the seat and the top of the dining table is 26cm to 30cm. If your chair measures 46cm to 51cm from the floor to the top of the seat, it will fit nicely under a standard height table while leaving plenty of leg room. Don't forget that chairs with wider cushions may have a higher overall seat height, so you'll need to allow room for the cushion to compress.
Important note: If you want a chair with adequate lumbar support, a backrest height between 30cm and 40cm is ideal.
How to Choose a Dining Chair Style?
With so many styles to choose from, you can really get creative when choosing your own stylish seating. However, asking yourself the following four questions will focus your thoughts and help narrow your search:
How often do you use your dining chair? – If your dining room is the social center of your home and you use the chairs on a daily basis, you will want a material that is hard-wearing and easy to clean. Our chairs are suitable for everyday use, but the cleaning and care of the material is always key point to consider.
How long will you sit in the chair? – This will help you choose the shape and support of the chair. If you're after extra comfort for those long post-dinner chats, a dining chair with an upholstered seat, high back, or armrests will provide plenty of support while seated.
What is your budget? – Probably one of the biggest determining factors is your budget, so it's good to have a rough idea of how much you're willing to spend on dining chair seating. Materials such as genuine leather have an instant look and feel of quality. However, this does result in a slightly higher price. If the material is out of your price range, there are always other options available. Faux leather, for example, allows you to create the style and look you want without breaking the budget.
How much space do you have? – If you have an extended dining table and you don’t need extra seating all the time, or if your space is a bit tight, consider stackable dining chairs so you can stack and store any extra chairs when they’re not in the use time.
How to Style a Dining Chair?
Mix and Match
If you're struggling to choose, a mix-and-match dining setting might just be the answer. But if you want to create a true designer look, you can't just throw any part together. You can try it they put together.
Dining Chair Combination
You can place a dining chair at each end of the table to create a balanced atmosphere. Or you can place them around the entire table for a truly cozy and welcoming space. Having both a dining chair and a dining chair will bring a touch of variety to your dining set, while also offering seating for two for extra comfort and luxury.
Color Burst
Dining chairs are also a very easy and inexpensive way to add color to your dining space. Mix and match for different setups or choose all of one color for a bold look. Pair colorful dining chairs with a clear glass table to showcase colorful dining chairs from every angle.
